The Irish Government is seeking a report from the National Museum of Ireland on the life of the diesel powered Titanic.
The Titanic was the largest passenger ship afloat in the world, carrying over 7,000 passengers and crew to New York.
The Titanic was owned by the British company Doric and was decommissioned in 1926.
The National Museum is currently undertaking an extensive research project in an attempt to understand the history of the Titanic and the Titanic engines, including the engines that powered the ship.
A report on the Titanic is expected to be submitted to the National Gallery of Ireland in the autumn.
