GMC and the truck maker are to retire the most popular of its compact GMC pickup trucks by the end of 2023.GM is ending production of the C7 compact pickup in 2019, and is replacing it with the C6, the first-generation C7 pickup, and the C8.
GMC is working on a successor to the C5 pickup, the C4, that will be offered as a two-door SUV and four-door crossover.
The new trucks will be built at GM’s Assembly Plant in Warren, Michigan, where GMC began producing trucks in the 1980s.
The C6 and C8 are the first pickups to be built by GM in Michigan since 2007, when it began production of its popular Chevrolet Colorado.
The pickup is one of the oldest models in GM’s lineup, but it has also been a leader in reliability.
GM has seen sales of the Chevrolet Avalanche in the United States drop by about half since 2010, but the pickup has been the best-selling vehicle in GMC’s U.S. operations.
The C7 and C6 will be replaced by the C10 pickup, which will replace the C1, a pickup truck that debuted in 2016.
GM is building a fourth-generation pickup truck, the RAV4, for the United Auto Workers, which has about 50,000 members.
