article What’s next for Unreal Engine?
What is the next stage in the development of the next generation of gaming hardware?
The answer is Unreal Engine 4, which is expected to be released in 2019, according to Valve.
In addition to its main focus on making games that can run at higher resolutions and frame rates, the next iteration of the software is expected for release as a standalone product.
Valve is not planning to make a big splash with the game, but the company is expected, if the announcement is correct, to announce a new title, with an official title still to be decided.
The next iteration will be available for developers to use to create new games, which should make it easier to get games out the door.
At the same time, the company has said that it is working on a separate version of the engine, codenamed Mantle, which will allow developers to port existing games to the new software.
Valve previously said that Mantle would be ready to ship in the “near future”.
