The Google owned Chevrolet engine is still under development, and the company still hasn’t given a firm date for when the company expects to deliver the first-generation engine.
The company also hasn’t revealed how many engines it’s working on or how much it’s spent on the project.
But in an email sent to The Washington Post on Tuesday, the company noted that “we are still at the design phase and still need to test it and tune it before it will be ready for production.”
And it added that the company has already begun testing its new diesel engines, which it said have been “tuned to meet the highest fuel efficiency requirements.”
Google said it’s spending $300 million on the new engines.
But that’s still just a fraction of the $4 billion that Google is investing in its fleet of new cars.
